Creating an Awareness about Organ Donation
The Organ Donation Awareness Trust was established in 2006 with the aim of creating awareness about organ & tissue donation in New Zealand. It’s about encouraging families, friends and communities to discuss giving the ‘gift of life’. It is not an easy decision to become a donor and it can be even harder for families to make that decision following the death of their loved one. Therefore it is important to talk about organ donation with your family, so your wishes are known.

The intention of this website is to help you consider organ and tissue donation, and to help you to talk about it with your family and friends.

Karla- on dialysis

My name is Karla and I have now been on dialysis 17yrs and to be honest it’s not all bad. Dialysis tends to be my time for relaxing and watching TV because let’s face it, I can’t go anywhere. However what I do find hard is the prejudice from people that as a patient who has been on dialysis this long I am going to die. At this point I should mention I am 28.

Faizal- waiting for a Transplant

Life for me changed suddenly in 2006. I never thought I would be writing or telling anyone that my body needs a new organ, or that my name is on the transplant waiting list. Everyday at the back of my mind I wonder if today I will get that phone call...... 'we have the gift of new life for you!'
